Another two nice examples of traditional Xhosa Beadwork. The black and white choker has sections of reeds worked into the piece. The closure is two pearly shell buttons.
The green and white also has a section of reeds worked into the cascade but doesn’t have a fastening. These pieces are not new so the thread may not be very strong. Please ask any questions.
Joan Brosters book written in the 60’s – “Red Blanket Valley” is a good reference on Xhosa customs and beadwork. The first picture is copied from her book. The Red Blanket Valley book is not for sale.
