TWO SAR/SAS BADGES

I have just found these South African Railways badges today.  One seems to be older as the metal is curved and slightly more bronzy in colour.  It also has lugs at the back.   These are bent over but not broken.   The second badge doesn’t have any lugs on the back  is shinier and looks as it was stuck onto something.

I went to school from Mtubatuba to Empangeni by train with my brother and have memories of the green leather bunks, windows that were operated with a leather strap, uniformed conductors tapping their ticket clippers as they went down each carriage and smuts in your eyes if you leant out of the windows!!!!
