Military bayonet scabbard frog - SANDF?

My research tells me this is a scabbard for a bayonet, also called a frog.  Well a frog is also a flower holder with holes in it usually ceramic or glass!  I am not too familiar with this type of item so it could be for something else, forgive me if I am wrong.  Collectors will be able to know what it is.  The name J J B Dales is written on the back of the item.
