Silver Koos de la Rey Medalion pin – Florida 21 Junie 1943 – 21 Junie 1964

An interesting item.  10.7 gms On one side Florida (koos de la Rey) 21 Junie 1943 – 21 Junie 1964  WEES STERK in the centre.  On the other side. “Heer, as dit U behaag neem my as offer vir land en volk” – Genl De La Rey.  The medallion appears to test as silver. I have researched this item and not found a reference to the dates on the medal.  Below may be helpful – from Google.

Regiment De la Rey in 1943
Honoring His Name: In 1943, the South African military honored De la Rey by incorporating his name into units like the Regiment De la Rey (RDLR), which served with distinction in World War II’s Italian Campaign.
“The Lion of the West”: De la Rey, known as “The Lion of the West,” was a hero from the Second Boer War, and naming a regiment after him kept his legend alive during the global conflict, explains Wikipedia and Wikipedia.
The Witwatersrand Rifles/De La Rey Regiment was a motorized infantry battalion that served in the 6th South African Armoured Division during the Italian campaign from 1943 to 1945. Members of this regiment wore a specific regimental beret or collar badge, but this was a unit insignia, not a state-issued military honour or medallion specifically for General de la Rey himself.
